1. Description:
What is Esomeprazole?
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces stomach acid production. It is used for treating acid-related conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcers.
2. Indications:
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with erosive esophagitis.
Healing of gastric ulcers associated with NSAID therapy.
Prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers in patients at risk.
Prevention of rebleeding following therapeutic endoscopy for acute bleeding ulcers.
3. Dosage and Administration:
Adults: 20 mg to 40 mg once daily, administered through intravenous injection.
Children (1-18 years): Dosing varies based on age and weightโ€”typically 10 mg to 40 mg once daily.
4. Side Effects:
Common: Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea.
Rare: Severe allergic reactions, liver problems, kidney issues.
5. Warnings:
Not suitable for patients with severe liver problems or allergies to PPIs.
Caution in patients with a history of low magnesium levels or osteoporosis.
6. Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light, below 25ยฐC.
